THE ALBI CLUB / GARMENT CARE

Made to be worn. Cared for to last.

A little care goes a long way. Keep your ALBI pieces feeling good, holding their shape and ready for the next round.

Always check the care label sewn into your garment. It takes priority over this guide.

THE MERINO ROUTINE

Six simple steps.

For ALBI merino pieces, wash gently by hand in cold water. Keep the water cold throughout washing and rinsing.

  1. Turn inside out

Check the care label, turn your piece inside out and wash it separately from other colours.

  2. Prepare a cold wash

Fill a clean basin with cold water. Add a mild detergent made for wool, following the dosage on its label. Avoid bleach and enzyme-based detergents.

  3. Wash gently by hand

Submerge the garment and gently press the water through the fabric. Avoid rubbing, scrubbing, stretching or leaving it to soak for a long time.

  4. Rinse in cold water

Rinse gently with fresh cold water until the detergent is removed. Keep supporting the garment rather than lifting it by the shoulders.

  5. Press out excess water

Gently press out the water without twisting or wringing. Lay the piece on a clean towel, roll it up and press lightly.

  6. Reshape and dry flat

Ease the garment back into shape and lay it flat on a clean, dry towel in the shade. Keep it away from heaters and direct sunlight. Never hang it while wet.

Between wears

Give it some air

Air your merino between wears and wash when needed. Let it rest somewhere cool and ventilated.

Fold, rather than hang

Store knitwear clean, completely dry and folded to help keep its shape. Keep it in a dry space protected from moths.

A note on pilling

Small surface bobbles can develop where knitwear rubs. Remove them gently with a wool comb, without pulling at the yarn.

Care for the rest of your wardrobe

Different fabrics and finishes need different care. Use the instructions on the individual garment rather than applying the merino routine to every piece.

Cotton and everyday pieces

Check the label for the permitted wash method, temperature, drying and ironing instructions. Wash similar colours together and turn printed or embroidered pieces inside out where the label allows.

Performance fabrics

Follow the label for washing and drying. Avoid fabric softener unless the label permits it, and keep heat within the stated limits.

Caps and accessories

Check the care label before cleaning. Avoid immersing a structured cap or putting it in a machine unless its label specifically permits it.

A few common questions

Can I use the machine’s hand-wash cycle?

For ALBI merino pieces labelled for cold hand washing, wash by hand in a basin. A machine’s “hand wash” setting is still a machine wash.

Can I tumble dry my merino?

For this cold-hand-wash routine, dry your merino flat in the shade. Avoid the tumble dryer and direct heat.

What if the label gives different instructions?

Follow the label on that particular garment. Fabrics, trims and finishes can have different requirements.
